Are You a Freethinker?
Do you try to figure things out for yourself instead of just accepting whatever you have been told? Do you question traditions? Do you understand that there are many conflicting traditions around the world and that yours have no special privilege above others? Do you see that many people around the world have blind faith in a variety of different things and understand that faith never guarantees that what you belief is true? Do you understand that science and reason are better at finding truth than faith will ever be? Would you rather avoid delusion than uncertainty?
If you can answer yes to these questions, then you may be a freethinker. Freethinkers accept responsibility for seeking true beliefs, especially in matters of religion. They shun authoritarian calls to faith and try to understand things for themselves. Freethinkers make use of science, philosophy, and reason to understand the world better. They are not afraid to hold contrary opinions, and they would rather understand what they believe than go along with what everyone else believes. Even when it comes to the beliefs they have been brought up with, they will cast them aside if they don't make sense. Freethinkers put the search for truth first, and they understand that faith is often a stumbling block to knowing the truth.
If this describes you, you may identify yourself as a freethinker with a free email account in the form of yourname@freethinker.zzn.com. You will find the form to sign up at the bottom of the right column.
